Project 52: Rule of Thirds | Week 10It's Week 10 of professional pet photography Project 52 blog circle and our theme is "rule of thirds." The Rule of Thirds is one of the most basic rules of composition. Using the Rule of Thirds in composing your image you break your image into a grid of nine squares. The intersecting lines of the grid of nine are supposed to be where you put your subject. You can use the Rule of Thirds when composing your image or camera or you can crop the photo to fit the rule when doing your post-production. While you don't have to follow the rule, at least know why you're breaking it because it does tend to make your images less boring when viewing them. Here's an image without following the Rule of Thirds. The dog is positioned more towards the center.
Here's the same image composed to follow the Rule of Thirds.
And here's the image with a grid overlay to show the lines for the Rule of Thirds.
Which do you like better? The first one or the one following the Rule of Thirds? Next up in the blog circle is Jackie Petersen Pet Photography, serving pet lovers in Northern Utah. After you visit Jackie, head around the rest of the blog circle until you end up back here. I haven't seen a doberman in quite a while, such a beautiful dog! I prefer the image that's cropped to the rule of thirds for this pose.

I also like the one centered. Pretty Dobi!
