Project 52: Composite | Week 06

February 08, 2019  •  4 Comments

It's Week 6 of professional pet photography blog circle Project 52 and our theme for the week is "composite." A composite is an image that is put together from more than one image or element. Some composites can be very elaborate or some can be very simple. For this week's challenge I decided to combine several different photos as well as the element of different textures to create my final image.

I started off with this outtake picture of Lola taken in my home studio. She was sitting on a stool under a table so this wasn't a planned pose or set.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it but I decided to cut Lola out of the picture and work with just that. I had to mull it over for a bit then I decided to look at some stock images online for some ideas on what direction to go. I decided I wanted to place her on a wall, but since I wasn't finding quite what I was looking for, I decided to look through some old images I took for the right starting point. I found this RAW, unedited image of Mr. Bojangles from 2015. It wasn't an image that I used for anything as Mr. Bojangles' face and head are pretty blown out.  Since I was really just looking for the wall anyway, I had something I could work with. My next step was to remove Mr. Bojangles from the image. I also made some adjustments on the RAW image. I now had my starting point to add in Lola. I decided to go for a kind of an 18th/19th century British pastoral scene (hence my little rock wall.) I added in Lola and made a lot of adjustments and added quite a few layers of textures until I got the look I was going for with my image. I also added a painted layer to the image to give it more of that 18th/19th century painterly vibe. After that, head around the rest of the blog until you end up back here.

Wow, terrific work! Lola is a dream model and I just want to squish her chunky little body!

Beautiful! Such a nice job out of two otherwise throw away images.

Nice job. Do I need to learn this painted layer thing? Seems like all the cool kids are doing it.
