Project 52: HDR | Week 24

June 15, 2018  •  3 Comments

It's Friday, so that means we have another professional pet photography Project 52 blog circle post. Our theme for Week 24 is HDR or high dynamic range. Basically, high dynamic range is the range between the lights and darks of an image. HDR images are typically a series of images blended together to create an image that includes a broader dynamic range than you can get in a single image. For this week's challenge, Mr. Bojangles and I headed out to our favorite local park, which was probably not the best location to shoot HDR images.

I used two different approaches to get my images this week. For the first, I combined three different exposures (not so successfully) to get a final image. I basically combined an overexposed image, an underexposed image, and a properly exposed image to get the final image. This did not turn out the way I was expecting and it's definitely not a good example of HDR photography.

First up is the overexposed image. Next up is the underexposed image. Then the properly exposed image. And, finally, the combined image, which certainly doesn't look that much different than the properly exposed image. Finally, we have a clear winner in the final image, which was created from the properly exposed image and edited using HDR Efex Pro from Nik Software. You can see how the detail is picked out more in this final HDR image. For more HDR images, head over to see Ursula M. Garrison, a freelance photographer based on the South Shore of Lake Superior in Northern Wisconsin, and then around the rest of the blog circle until you end up back here.

That Mr. Bojangles, he's hired! I barely got my cat to sit still and that was with the hubby holding her. Nice job.
