Project 52: Shadows | Week 30

July 28, 2017  •  1 Comment

We are at Week 30 of professional pet photography blog circle Project 52 and our theme for this week is "shadows." What to do when the day you choose to shoot shadows is the day that mother nature decides to be a natural light diffuser and has an overcast sky? Well, you create your own shadows by using additive light.

So, Mr. Bojangles and I (along with the BF acting as my Sherpa), packed up some gear and headed over to our favorite local park. We set up at our favorite posing log and with the help of some off camera flash and the cover of the woods, I was able to create my own shadows. The woods around us weren't as dark as the appear in these images, but my camera settings and speedlight took care of adding the shadowy goodness. The use of a new lens also helped make the background smooth and dark. I recently got hold of the Nikon 70-200mm VRII lens and now I see what all the fuss is about. It really adds a little something special to these images. To see more shadow images, head over to see Linda with VP Shoots Photography in Tampa, FL, and then travel around the rest of the blog circle until you end up back here.

If you would like to book a custom pet portrait session in your home or other favorite location, use the hot pink "BOOK NOW" button to the right of this post (at the bottom of your screen on mobile), send us an email to suzi [at], or give us a call at 513-288-1650 in the Greater Cincinnati area or at 650-382-3242 in the San Francisco Bay Area.

These images make me think of fairy tales set in a dark dark wood! I love the bkgd compression the long lens gives as well!
