Project 52: Doorways | Week 9

March 03, 2017  •  6 Comments

It's Week Nine of professional pet photography blog circle Project 52 and our theme this week is "doorways." What a crazy week Cincinnati has had weather wise, from a record high temperature just last Friday to a high FORTY(!) degrees cooler just the next day to crazy rain, wind, and hail just a few days later! Despite all the crazy weather changes, Mr. Bojangles and I were able to head outside to battle the elements for our weekly assignment. Since our theme was doorways, I couldn't really head to our favorite local park, so I decided to set out exploring some of the local neighborhoods until I found a doorway I felt was worth photographing. I actually didn't have to drive too long to find one, too!

We set out from our home in Montgomery and ended up in Mariemont, where I found the perfect door at the Mariemont Chapel, a Norman style church built in the 1920's as part of Mary Emery's planned community and designed by Canadian architect, Louis E. Jallade. I've driven by the place hundreds of times, but never noticed it, as you have to drive off the main road to really see it. It is a very interesting building, as it really make you think you are in the English countryside looking at an old Norman church. The church had several doors, and while I photographed Mr. Bojangles at two other doors, the door in my final image was my favorite as it really gives the look of being part of a medieval fortress...something not typically found in the United States, let alone in Cincinnati!

For this week's image, I also decided to do a "painted" version, because I felt the setting called for something a little more "old school."

Here's a picture of the church (taken with my iPhone), so you can see how it caught my eye. Now to see where other doorways lead, head to the next blog in this circle: Kim with BARKography based in Charlotte, NC while on location in Costa Rica. After that, head through the doorways of the rest of the blog circle until they lead you back here.

Impressive doorway and building! Mr. B seems so tiny in the wake of that structure. His coat gives me an old world Scotland feel.

Mr. Bonjangles little spiky 'do totally works with the triangle detailing of the doorway. He looks like a little grunge rocker here!
