Project 52: Negative Space | Week 3

January 20, 2017  •  9 Comments

It's Week Three of professional pet photography blog circle Project 52 and our theme this week is "negative space." Negative space is the area which surrounds your main subject. Negative space is often considered to be "white space" or empty space, but it doesn't necessarily have to be empty of any visual element.

My images last week, for our black & white theme, employed a lot of negative space, as Mr. Bojangles was the only visual in the images. This week, I added the "LOVE" letters to Mr. Bojangles as the subject. You can look at this image in two ways for negative space. One, the top portion of the image is negative space as it is empty of any visual element; and, two, Mr. Bojangles is positioned to the right of the "LOVE" letters. So, event though there is a visual element with the "LOVE" it can still be considered negative space, as it draws your eye to the main subject, Mr. Bojangles.
