Project 52: Light - Shadows | Week 30
The hot and humid Cincinnati weather did not cooperate with my plans for this week's professional pet photography blog circle Project 52 post, so I decided to take my exploration of our theme "Light: Shadows" inside. As we have been doing all this year, we are covering lessons from "The Visual Toolbox: 60 Lessons for Stronger Photographers" by David DuChemin.
I had wanted to get some nice shadows outside, but the hot and humid weather left the week mostly overcast, so the shadows and light weren't exactly what I wanted. So, I decided to create my own shadows in studio by moving my light and position of my subject, the always cooperative Mr. Bojangles, who was joined this week by his brother, Paco.
To create my shadows I used one light stand (outfitted with three speedlights) with an umbrella modifier and a reflector. The only changes I made were to the position of the light and the position of my subject(s) in relation to the light, as well as switching my reflector from white to silver.
In this one, the reflector had changed over to silver and Mr. Bojangles was farther away from the light.
Paco then decided to join the fun and pose with his brother. You can see how the light was coming from camera right as the shadows are off to the left.
I also had to make sure that Paco got his own solo spotlight, because he is a great little model, too.
For more shadows, head over to see what Hoof N Paw Fine Art & Photography, Spokane, WA, has for us and then head around the rest of the blog circle until you end up back here.

I thought about doing studio lighting last week as well. Love that you did. The second image is my most favorite, but they are all great!
Great job! Love that you took it indoors and "improvised" - awesome! Adorable pups :)
When life gives you lemons, make shadows with speedlights! Love it! :O)
