Project 52: Learn to Sketch | Week 23
Usually, when I show pictures, they are the finished product. The end game. My vision. My goal. However, for Week 23 of professional pet photography blog circle Project 52, we are "learning to sketch." This topic comes from the book, "The Visual Toolbox: 60 Lessons for Stronger Photographers" by David DuChemin. According to DuChemin, we should learn to sketch our ideas with digital images. Basically, all the pictures we take are part of the story we are trying to tell. As he says "I don't see crappy photographs, only sketch images that haven't gotten me where I'm going yet, but without which I'll never get there."
Many times, we have a vision of what we want to create and sometimes it takes quite a few attempts to get that perfect final image. This is especially true when pets are your main subject. With their quick movements and short attention spans, it sometimes takes quite a few attempts to get the goods worthy of showing off when photographing pets. So, this week, you will see my images that didn't make the cut, but per DuChemin, I am not to look at them as failed attempts, but as a progression of the story I'm trying to tell.
For this week, I also gave Mr. Bojangles a break from his usual starring role and decided to work with some of my foster kittens. I don't get to photograph cats as often as I would like to, so having a captive audience in my little foster family has been fun. So, enjoy the visual journey of my foster kitten, William, playing with yarn balls. And, my final image where I finally got him looking up enough to see his eyes.
William, his mother, and his siblings: William, George, Kate, and Charlotte AKA "The Royals" are available for adoption through Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue in Cincinnati.
To see more sketching with photographs, head over to Hoof N Paw Fine Art & Photography, and then around the rest of the blog circle until you end up back here.
