Project 52: Lighting from the Front and Side | Week 24
It's Friday, so that means another professional pet photography blog circle Project 52 post! This week it's Week 24 and the topic of lighting or, more specifically, lighting from the front and from the side. We are, as usual, covering topics from the book, "The Visual Toolbox: 60 Lessons for Stronger Photographers" by David DuChemin. Front lighting is the most common form of lighting used as it falls broadly across the subject. It's especially common with those shooting natural light. For my images this week, however, I decided to use a studio set up.
For my first image representing front light, I had my off camera flash placed in front of my subject, Mr. Bojangles. You can see how the lighting comes from in front of him and that his face is more evenly lit with no shadows. For my image demonstrating side light, I simply moved my light off to the side. You can see how the light is now more directional from the side and creates shadows on the left side of the image (and the right side of Mr. Bojangles' face.)
Now to see more images using both front and side light, head over to Little White Dog Pet Photography - Sioux Falls, SD, and then around the rest of the blog circle until you end up back here.

As always, great examples. I love Mr. B's expression and that bow tie!
I love these images. Such perfect examples, too. :O)
