Project 52: Simplify | Week 51

December 23, 2016  •  4 Comments

It's the next to the last week of our project year, Week 51 and our blog circle project is finishing up working with "The Visual Toolbox: 60 Lessons for Stronger Photographers" by David DuChemin for our professional pet photography Project 52 blog posts. Our topic this week was "simplify," which could mean a multitude of things from simplifying our frames to using techniques that simplify how we do things. Mainly, however, we were to remove extraneous elements from our scene to keep things simple. One of the ways I like to keep images simple is to shoot in studio and have a clean, plain background. One of my favorites is to shoot with a white background to keep everything as clean and simple as possible.

For this week's assignment, Diana, the tortie cat, was my model. While I did use some props in my image, I kept everything with the same color palette, except for my feline subject...who brings a vibrant color palette all her own. By keeping both the props and the background muted, Diana is allowed to stand out with her gorgeous golden eyes and coat of many colors. For more simplification head over to see what Darlene with Pant the Town Pet Photography serving MA and NH, has for us, and then head around the rest of the blog circle until you end up back here.

If you would like to book a custom pet portrait session in your home or other favorite location, use the hot pink "BOOK NOW" button to the right of this post (at the bottom or your screen on mobile), send us an email to suzi [at] petlovephotography.com, or give us a call at 513-288-1650 in the Greater Cincinnati area or at 650-382-3242 in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Oh my gosh, this is fantastic! My kind of photo. I have been thinking about getting some lighted words, and now you have convinced me I need to do it!

I love images that use the same color palette. I'm not sure why I'm always drawn to them... perhaps bc of their simplicity. :)

Merry Christmas!
