Project 52: Use Scale | Week 47

November 25, 2016  •  1 Comment

Hope everyone had a very Happy Thanksgiving! Today we're onto Week 47 of professional pet photography blog circle Project 52 and the topic of scale. As we've been doing for most of this year, we are covering another chapter from the book "The Visual Toolbox: 60 Lessons for Stronger Photographers" by David DuChemin. For this week we were to use scale to provide a reference point for the size of our subject. Because it's been a super busy week, I'm going to cheat and use some pictures I've already taken and also because I really love my first image and how it indicates the scale of just how small Mr. Bojangles is. A little dog in a big world. The next image of Mr. Bojangles is taken in front of the same building, Cincinnati's Union Terminal, but you can't tell the size of Mr. Bojangles because there is not the comparison of scale as in the previous image because of the angle this picture was taken from. The last image is from a client shoot last year of Stella, of Stella's Closet Charity, and her mom, Aurora. People are another good way to show scale. Stella, like Mr. Bojangles, is a chihuahua mix and a rescue dog. Stella and her mom put together care packages for recently adopted rescue dogs as they start their next chapter in life.

Next head over to see what Jessica Wasik with Bark & Gold Photography, serving Pittsburgh pets and their people has for us (which is the end of the blog circle this week).

Mr. Bonjangles is larger than life in that superhero cape! I like how you showed the contrast between the first shot of him and the second. Well done!
