Project 52: Spooky | Week 43

October 28, 2016  •  3 Comments

It's Week 43 of professional pet photography blog circle Project 52 and this week we're taking a break from "The Visual Toolbox: 60 Lessons for Stronger Photographers" by David DuChemin to embrace the spirits of the season with a freestyle theme of "spooky." The word spooky can convey several different meanings from something strange and frightening to eerie or ghostly. I decided that we would go for the kind of eerie, haunted meaning in keeping with the Halloween season.

For our pictures I decided that we would go to a park with a lot of trees, so we decided to head to Symmes Township Park in Loveland. This park is larger than our favorite local park and includes a large dog park. Mr. Bojangles and I walked back towards the dog park in order to take advantage of the wooded area. Mr. Bojangles also took a break in the dog park, where he met a cute German Shepherd puppy named Cooper.

Even though it was more of a dreary overcast day, we didn't quite get the creep factor I was looking for, so I had to enhance the images in Photoshop to get more of the look I was going for with out spooky theme. First I will show you the before image and then the "spookified" version.

The non-spooky image of Mr. Bojangles on a posing platform AKA a tree stump. And the spooky version. The woods look a bit more ominous, as it gets a little darker and the fog rolls in...or is it a ghostly presence? The before of Mr. Bojangles posing among the fallen leaves.

And the spooky after version.

In retrospect, I probably should have gone to our favorite local park, because the wooded area there would have been perfect for some spooky pictures. Or we should have at least waited until later in the day to take our trip to the park, because even though it wasn't really sunny, the sky was still light and bright shining through the trees.

Now head over to see what spookiness Elaine Tweedy, Northeast PA Pet Photographer, I Got The Shot Photography. has in store for us, and then head around the rest of the blog circle until you end up back here.

Hello, Mr. B! I agree that the last one with the texture has a great feel. I love what it did to the leaves. :O)
